“come out and play” is the sweet soft ballad released by young musical star Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell in late November 2018. The track was a different sound for the singer, and was originally released for infamous tech company Apple and their 2018 holiday campaign.
Finneas spoke about the track on Twitter on the day of its release: “Billie and I got sent an incredibly early version of this commercial when we they were still putting it together and we wrote this song while watching it”, Finneas wrote. “Beyond honoured to be a part of this wonderful piece”. The track was released as a single everywhere except Japan, where the Japanese import featured “come out and play” on Eilish’s latest album released in March 2019: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”.
The music video for “come out and play” is the Apple advert, which shows an animation of a young creative woman drawing and writing (it is never shown what she is writing or drawing) living alone with her dog. She works in a bakery and often sculpts the dough into her dog before anyone can see and doesn’t share her creative talents with anyone. One day, her box filled with her work is suddenly blown out into the street when her window is open, leading the young woman and her dog to chase after them. The dog nudges her to show her how the people around her are picking up her work and enjoying it. Throughout the advert, Apple phones and laptops are constantly promoted, and the message of the advert is to “share your gifts”. The video has over 21 million views as of June 2019.
