“LUNCH” is the second track from American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish and her third album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT”, which was released in May 2024 through Darkroom under Interscope Records.
The synth-pop track sees Eilish describe her desire to be with a woman who she cannot stop thinking about, as well as her sexual attraction to the woman being so strong that she could “eat that girl for lunch”. The song’s tounge-in-cheek metaphors and witty lyrics make for a fun queer song by Eilish, despite the singer previously stating to Rolling Stone magazine that she never planned or wanted to discuss her sexuality. She also opened up to the magazine about writing “LUNCH” and how it aided in her in feeling more comfortable in her sexuality:
“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real, I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand — until, last year […] I was never planning on talking about my sexuality ever, in a million years.”
The music video for “LUNCH” was released on YouTube alongside the album on the 17th May 2024. The video was directed by Eilish herself and it’s camera direction, Eilish’s style and the filter of the video are reminiscent of the 90s.
