“my strange addiction” is one of Eilish’s more experimental tracks, featuring samples of the musician’s favourite show: “The Office” (US Version).
Written and produced by fellow musician and Eilish’s brother Finneas, “my strange addiction”, the track consists of Eilish attempting to understand why an unnamed individual is her “strange addiction”, with interludes of vocal samples of “The Office”, specifically Season 7 from Episode 17. Eilish spoke to an Australian radio station “Triple J” about being a fan of the series: “I’ve seen The Office 12 times now, counting. Every time I finish it, I start it immediately right after from the beginning again. I have episodes memorized and stuff, it’s my therapy bro, it’s like my little escape. As stupid as that sounds, that show has gotten me through my whole life, I feel like. The song is called ‘my strange addiction’ and its about having somebody be your addiction and like, feeling like your suffocating because you want somebody so bad that it’s like a sickness. And for real it’s just mainly because my strange addiction is The Office.” Eilish also spoke to MTV about the track: When we made the beat for ‘my strange addiction,’ it reminded me of the song they play when they do the Scarn dance. I thought that was really funny, so we literally just ripped the audio from Netflix and put it in the song, not at all thinking that they would say yes to it and we’d be able to put it out.”
There is no official music video for the track, however the official audio upload on Eilish’s channel has over 14.5 million views.
