Mastermind

“Mastermind” is the final track from the album “Midnights”, the tenth album released by Taylor Swift via Republic Records in October 2022.

The electro-pop track sees Swift spin the narrative on true love; playing the role of a cupid mastermind who has paved the way to be with her current partner, stating that  straight women have had to be smart to get the men they want.

Speaking to iHeart Radio after the album’s release, Swift revealed that her and producer and co-writer Jack Antonoff wanted the song to have various different sounds:

” […] when we were making this song, we wanted the verse to sound like romance and this sort of heroes type of soundtrack, and then we wanted the chorus to sound like a villain has just entered the room and the idea that you’re flipping this narrative, and you have been planning and plotting things and making them look like an accident…”

The lyric video for “Mastermind” was uploaded to Taylor Swift’s official YouTube channel on the 22nd October 2022. As of the 17th November 2022, the video had a total of 4 million views.
