“You’re On Your Own Kid” is the fifth track from Taylor Swift’s tenth studio album “Midnights”, which was released on the 21st October 2022 via Republic Records. The synth-pop song was written and produced by Taylor Swift along with producer and writer Jack Antonoff.
The tracks tell a tale of lust and longing, friendship blurring the lines of love, growing up and still yearning for love from a childhood friend, but a lifelong crush. As the song progresses, listeners see Swift grow up, longing for love, only to realise that the only person she will always have is herself – hence the title “You’re On Your Own, Kid”. The song shows a darker side to Swift, a reoccuring theme throughout the “Midnights” album.
The lyric video was uploaded to Swift’s official YouTube channel on the 22nd October 2022. As of the 17th November 2022, the video had a total of 6.3 million views.
