“Mine” is the first song on Taylor Swift’s 2010 album “Speak Now”, which released in 2010 via Big Machine Records. It is a country pop song, and one of Swift’s most successful and well loved tracks.
Like a huge majority of Swift’s songs, “Mine” details the story of a woman’s journey of finding love, despite her pessimism from watching her parents marriage falling apart as a child.
In a Ustream chat with fans in July 2010, Swift gave her insight into the story behind “Mine”:
“”I think I’ve developed this pattern of sort of running away when it comes time to fall in love and to stay in a relationship. The song is sort of about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out…”
The music video for the song features English actor Toby Hemingway, who plays Swift’s love interest. The video was directed by Swift and Roman White, and was uploaded to Swift’s YouTube channel on the 31st August 2010. As of the 20th June 2023, the video had over 315.7 million views.
“Mine” has received many certifications worldwide:
- Gold in Japan and New Zealand
- Silver in the UK
- Platinum in Canada
- 3x Platinum in Australia and the US
“Mine” has won a total of four awards:
- “Publisher of the Year” & “Award-Winning Songs” at the 2011 BMI Country Awards
- “Video of the Year” at the 2011 CMT Awards
- “Award Winning Songs” at the 2012 BMI Pop Awards
