“xanny”, written by young musicians Billie Eilish and brother Finneas, discussing drugs and their addictiveness. The track emphasizes Eilish’s lack of desire and interest to ever partake in drug culture or try it for herself.
The vocal production in the track is just as impressive as the lyrics itself; the bass heavily increasing in the chorus, which Eilish states in her YouTube series “A Snippet Into Billie’s Mind” in the third episode which focuses on “xanny”: The verses are like what smoke looks like and the choruses are like what it feels like.” Eilish also stated that the track was inspired after she had been with a group of friends who had been drinking and were throwing up. According to @eilishupdates2 on twitter, Eilish also had this to say about the track: “I have never done drugs, I’ve never smoked anything in my life, I know people around you doing that shit makes you want to, but you don’t have to, the song’s message is less ‘don’t do drugs’; it’s more ‘be safe’. I don’t want my friends to die anymore.” Eilish has also stated in multiple interviews that “xanny” was one of the tracks that she was most excited for.
Despite its popularity, “xanny” currently has no music video, however the official audio on YouTube has over 15 million views, almost 8,700 comments and over 221,000 likes as of August 2019.
