Too Late

“Too Late” is the second track from Canadian artist The Weeknd and his fourth studio album “After Hours”, which was released in March 2020. “Too Late” was written by Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), Jason Quenneville (DaHeala), Carlo Montagnese (Illangelo) and Eric Burton Frederic (Ricky Reed); with production done by The Weeknd, Ricky Reed, Illangelo, DaHeala and Nate Mercereau.

“Too Late” is a sythn-pop R&B track that draws on themes from The Weeknd’s “After Hours” album, drawing on his inability to take responsibility and blame for his own mistakes and wrongdoings. “Too Late” discusses how The Weeknd thinks it’s far too late to save him and his soul, and how him and his lover are doomed. The lyrics are also rumoured to be about The Weeknd’s on-and-off relationship with model Bell Hadid.

The official music video for “Too Late” was released on the 22nd October 2020, and was directed by Cliqua. The video follows two Instagram influencers who live in a large mansion and are continuously having plastic surgery, so their faces are always bandaged. The two girls find The Weeknd’s head in the middle of the road, steal it and eventually end up murdering a male escort in their home to use his body as The Weeknd’s replacement body. In less than one week, the video had over 5.4 million views and 382 thousand likes.
