“Gasoline” is the second track from Canadian singer and songwriter The Weeknd and his newest and fifth studio album “Dawn FM“, which was released on the 7th January 2022 through XO and Republic Records.
The synth-pop/new-wave song sees The Weeknd trial a new sound, seeing the artist speak in the verses of the track. Lyrically, The Weeknd discusses a toxic relationship with a lover who is his crutch and helps The Weeknd in his drug fuelled days and nights.
The music video for the song was released on the 11th January 2022 via The Weeknd’s official YouTube channel. Directed by Matilda Finn (who also was in charge of the album art), viewers see an older version of The Weeknd, driving on a dark road with a bluetooth like earpiece in his ear that becomes filled with ants, causing the artist to crash. After the crash, The Weeknd is shown at a club, where a younger version of himself sees the older Weeknd. The floor of club starts drowning and turning some of the club goers into monsters, with the younger Weeknd beating up the older version of himself until he is left unconscious. In the first few hours of its release, the video received over half a million views.
