“thank u, next” is Ariana Grande’s newest single off her upcoming album with the same title. Based off her recent break-up with ex fiancé comedian Pete Davidson (who actually wrote a song about in her previously released album “Sweetener” titled “pete davidson”).
“Thought I’d end up with Sean
But he wasn’t a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete, I’m so thankful
Wish I could say: “Thank you” to Malcolm
‘Cause he was an angel”
The first verse lists some of Grande’s ex partners like Big Sean (a rapper), Ricky Alvarez who used to be one of her back dancers, and of course Pete Davidson and finally Mac Miller, who sadly passed away a few months ago. Grande has constantly been criticised for having a lot of relationships in a short time frame. This song counteracts that and sends the message of self-love and acceptance and loving yourself before you need anyone else.
There is no official music video for the track, but the official video for the audio has over 31 million views and 1 million likes, and was released on the 3rd November.
