“Honest” is the lead single from Canadian singer and songwriter Justin Bieber and his upcoming seventh studio album. Released through Def Jam Records on the 29th April 2022, “Honest” marks Bieber’s first official single since since “Ghost”, which was from his sixth studio album “Justice” in 2021.
“Honest” is an R&B track that sees Bieber collaborate with American rapper and singer Don Toliver for a second time – the first time being the 2021 single with producer Skrillex, with the song “Don’t Go”.
“Honest” discusses both of the musician’s fame and the qualities of their partners, with Bieber’s focus on personality and Toliver’s on sexual attraction and looks. Speaking to SiriusXM, Bieber revealed he was introduced to Toliver through rapper Travis Scott, and how he was a huge fan of Toliver’s sound:
“[…] we just became friends, and then we ended up doing this record together […]: he gives it that Houston energy, which I really love.”
The official music video for “Honest” was directed by Cole Bennett and premiered on Bieber’s official YouTube channel on the 29th April 2022. The video shows Bieber starting the video in a ski lodge, with the viewers being taken inside a snow globe Bieber is holding. Viewers are then shown Bieber and Toliver on snowmobiles, riding through mountains. The video ends with Bieber and Toliver sat around a fire with loved ones. As of the 6th May 2022, the video had a total of 9.4 million views and over 282 thousand likes.
