“Agora Hills” is the tenth track from American rapper and songwriter Doja Cat and her fourth studio album “Scarlet”, which was released in September 2023 through RCA Records and Kemosabe Records. The track samples Troop’s 1989 hit “All I Do Is Think of You”.
In “Agora Hills”, Doja Cat breaks down the layered emotions that come with being in love and also in the public eye, emphasising the need to keep the relationship as private and as sacred as possible, and at any cost.
The title of the track is a misspelling of a Los Angeles subrub named “Agoura Hills”, which is Doja Cat’s childhood neighbourhood. From the age of eight, Doja Cat lived in an Ashram commune founded and led by jazz musician Alice Coltrane that was in Agoura Hills, in which she lived and practised Hinduism for four years, and also gaining interest in a style of Indian classical dance called Bharatanatyam. The song’s title could also be a nod to the term “agoraphobia”, which is characterised by symptoms of anxiety in situations where an individual perceives their environment to be unsafe and with no easy way to escape. The song could also be a nod to “agoraphilia”, which is defined as the “love of public life, crowds and activity”.
The music video was released on the 22nd September 2023 and directed by Doja Cat and Hannah Lux Davis. As of the 23rd October 2023, the video had a total of 11.5 million views.
