“The Joker And The Queen (Remix)” is the latest collaboration between British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It marks the duo’s fourth song together, and is a remix of the sixth track from Sheeran’s 2021 album “=”.
“The Joker And The Queen (Remix)” sees Sheeran and Swift team up on this folk track about a healthy relationship that is thriving despite the pair’s fears of love and commitment, as well as self image. The track uses the rules of a card game as an analogy for love and the development of a relationship.
Sheeran spoke to Apple Music about the folk waltz tune, and how his brother Matthew had provided the string composition to “The Joker And The Queen (Remix)”, stating that he liked it as it sounded like “old classic that had been around since the ’50s”.
Sheeran performed the song live (without Swift) at the 42nd Brit Awards on the 8th February 2022, and confirmed that there would be a remix of the song with Swift at the Brit Awards red carpet in an interview with UK publication LADbible.
The music video for the song was released on the same day as the track on the 11th February 2022, and was uploaded to Sheeran’s official YouTube channel. The video is a continuation from the storyline of Swift and Sheeran’s 2013 single “Everything Has Changed“, of whom the child actors resembled both Swift and Sheeran (Ava James and Jack Lewis). The actors play their grown up selves in the video, exchanging messages with each other that replicated real texts that Sheeran and Swift had sent one another in 2015. The video shows the characters going about their daily lives unhappy, until they are finally reunited at the end of the video. In less than 24 hours, the video had over 2.4 million views and almost 300 thousand likes.
