“Tides” is the opening track from British singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Ed Sheeran and his fifth studio album “=”, which was released in October 2021 through Asylum and Atlantic Records separately.
The pop rock track sees Sheeran discuss the ways he has grown up, mentally, emotionally and physically as he became a father to his daughter Lyra and his wife, Cherry Seaborn. Speaking to heart.co.uk about the “+” album, Sheeran revealed his thoughts about the song’s lyrics and their inspiration:
“The verses are about what went on in my career and personal life […] the chorus is completely A cappella – the lyrics are ‘time stops to still when you are in my arms and it will always’. It’s like once the door closes and you’re alone with your family the chaos is shut out. It’s an interesting song because it’s so loud and so quiet and so loud and so quiet, I really like it.”
There is currently no music video for “Tides“, however there is an official lyric video for the song on Ed Sheeran’s YouTube channel. As of mid-December 2021, the video has almost 2.5 million views and 54 thousand likes.
