“2step” is the ninth track from British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and his 2021 album “=”, which was released on the 29th October 2021.
“2step” sees Sheeran sing in a rap-like flow, reminiscing on his bad days before fame, feeling trapped in the rat race and the repetition of daily life; Sheeran suggests going dancing all night with the woman he loves. Sheeran revealed more about the song when it was released via Apple Music:
“I went by his [producer Andrew Watt] studio and we made four of five songs for the fun of it. ‘2step’ was one that I really liked. It sounded like 2010 me—it was me at 30, trying to be me at 18, singing about what I was going through at 30. I always had the line ‘two-stepping with the woman I love’ because I can’t dance. And my wife […] isn’t an incredible dancer either. But the two-step is what we can do.”
The official lyric video for the song was uploaded to Sheeran’s YouTube channel on the 29th October 2021. As of mid-December 2021, the video had received almost 2.4 million views.
