“State of Grace (Taylor’s Version)” is the opening track on the 2021 re-recording of American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift’s 2012 album “Red“, with the 2021 album being titled “Red (Taylor’s Version)”.
“State of Grace” sees Swift step out of her country and pop roots and into rock, with his upbeat ballad track that details the emotional rollercoaster of falling in love, with feelings of excitement, nervousness and an element of fear. Swift also incorporates religious concepts such as “state of grace” (the song’s namesake), which is where an individual is free from sin. Many fans have theorised that this track may be about Swift’s ex-boyfriend actor Jake Gyllenhaal, due to the lyric “just twin fire signs, four blue eyes”, as Gyllenhaal has blue eyes like Swift’s, as well as both of them being fire signs on the astrological chart. On Good Morning America, when Swift released the original “Red” album, Swift stated that the song “sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way”.
The lyric video for “State of Grace (Taylor’s Version)” was uploaded to Swift’s YouTube channel on the 12th November 2021.
