“Clara Bow” is the sixteenth track on Taylor Swift’s 2024 album “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT” and was written and produced by Swift Aaron Dessner. This album marks Swift’s eleventh studio album.
The pop rock ballad was recorded in New York at Long Pond studio, and the song’s title comes from a silent-film actress of the same name. Clara Bow was a famous actress during the 1920s, and her role as a shop girl in the film “It” coined her as an “It Girl”, which is where the phrase comes from.
The song is a commentary on how women are pitted against each other in the music industry, constantly going against each other for the promise of being the next “big thing” or the newest “it girl”.
The lyric video was uploaded to YouTube on the 20th April 2024.
