“Florida!!!” is the eighth track from Taylor Swift’s eleventh album: “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT”, which was released in April 2024. The song is an Americana ballad that features English singer and songwriter Florence Welch, frontman of group Florence + The Machine.
In the song, Swift uses Florida as a metaphor for escapism – a place to go too when life feels a little too much. The lyrics recount Swift and Welch’s need to get away from their lives in their towns, with Swift feeling claustrophobic in her hometown and Welch dreaming of burying her past lovers in a swamp.
Speaking to Billboard Music, Welch recounted her experience working with Taylor Swift:
“I almost didn’t think of the scale of it. There’s the sort of bigness of [Taylor Swift the phenomenon], and then there’s the Taylor I spend time with in the studio, who is just the sweetest and most down to earth. We had such a fun time.”
