“Sacrifice” is the second single and the fifth track from Canadian singer and rapper The Weeknd’s fifth studio album “Dawn FM“, which was released on the 7th January 2022 through XO and Republic Records.
“Sacrifice” is a disco/synth-pop track that sees The Weeknd discuss his feelings about monogamy and committing to a serious relationship, being upfront about his lack of desire to sacrifice his time, energy and sexual freedom for a partner. Mankaprr Conteh from Rolling Stone compared the song to Michael Jackson’s hit tracks “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin‘” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough“, singling out the similar guitar riffs and vocal melodies.
The music video for “Sacrifice” premiered on The Weeknd’s YouTube channel on the 7th January 2022, and was directed by Cliqua. The video opens with the title track “Dawn FM“, which sees Canadian actor Jim Carrey perform a monologue. The Weeknd is then shown in a confused state, being brought to a theoretical light at the end of the tunnel, then waking up out of breath – leading on from the “Take My Breath” video. The Weeknd is then dragged by hooded cult members into a wheel like contraption, with psychedelic visuals and dancers. In only 24 hours, the video had received over 4.5 million views.
