get him back!

Olivia Rodrigo

Album GUTS

“get him back!” is the eighth track from American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo’s second album GUTS”, which was released on the 8th September 2023 through Geffen Records.

The pop rock song sees Rodrigo describe the lengths she would go to get a previous boy she has dated back, but is also simultaneously a double-entendre as she is also describing the way in which she also wants to seek revenge on this said ex-lover. The witty lyrics are sinister yet vulnerable, with Rodrigo baring all her inner-most thoughts for all.

Speaking to Apple Music, Rodrigo spoke about the writing process and working with songwriter and producer Dan Nigro for “get him back!”:

“Dan and I were at Electric Lady Studios in New York. We were writing all day and we wrote a song that I didn’t like and I had a total breakdown. I was like, ‘God, I can’t write songs. I’m so bad at this,’ being really negative. Then, we took a break and we came back and we wrote ‘get him back!’ and it’s one of my favorite songs, so just goes to show you: never give up. It was super fun to write…”

The lyric video for the track was uploaded via Rodrigo’s official YouTube channel on the 8th September 2023, and had a total of 2.6 million views as of the 26th September 2023.
