“drop dead” is a song by Olivia Rodrigo, released on 17 April 2026 as the lead single from her third studio album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The track was issued through Geffen Records and runs for 3 minutes and 44 seconds. It was written by Rodrigo alongside Amy Allen and Dan Nigro, with Nigro also serving as producer.

The release was preceded by a promotional campaign in early April 2026, during which pink padlocks placed in cities including London and Los Angeles hinted at the title and date. Rodrigo officially announced the single on 7 April 2026, confirming its release date shortly after. The song was made available across digital platforms as well as physical formats such as vinyl, cassette, and CD.

Musically, “Drop Dead” has been described as a synth-pop and pop rock track, incorporating a rock-influenced bridge and a power pop guitar solo. The production features prominent synthesizers alongside guitar-driven elements, marking a continuation of Rodrigo’s blend of pop and rock styles established in her earlier work.

At the 2025 Glastonbury festival, Rodrigo performed a cover of the song with Robert Smith, a member of The Cure.

The official music video, released on the same day as the single, was directed by Petra Collins and filmed primarily at the Palace of Versailles in France. Visually, it draws on themes of romantic idealisation, with imagery referencing art and architecture.

“drop dead” was first performed live on 18 April 2026 during a guest appearance at the Coachella festival, where Rodrigo debuted the song alongside Addison Rae.
