Album Midnights

“Bejeweled” is the ninth track from American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift’s tenth album titled “Midnights”, which was released on the 21st October 2022 via Republic Records.

The disco inspired song was written and producer by Swift along with Jack Antonoff. Lyrically, the track sees Swift remind herself of the value of her own time as well as her self-worth, while being stuck in a relationship that feels stagnant and possibly slightly isolating. Swift is reminding said partner that she is enough without him, and that she will not be defined by any romantic relationship.

Speaking to iHeart Radio on the album’s release day, Swift broke down the song’s meaning:

” […] I think it’s really about finding confidence when you feel that it’s been taken away, for whatever reason. You know, you’re feeling insecure, you’re feeling taken for granted. […]  One of the things we love to do at night, ‘cause we love to go dancing, we love to put on an outfit that makes us feel good, and we love to feel like we’re still bejeweled…”

The music video for “Bejeweled” was written and directed by Swift, and features appearances from the band HAIM, American burlesque icon Dita Von Teese and Jack Antonoff. It was uploaded to Swift’s official YouTube channel on the 25th October, and is based on the fairytale Cinderella. In 2 days, the video had almost 15 million views.
