“The Life of a Showgirl” is the final track from American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and her twelfth studio album of the same name. The pop song features American singer Sabrina Carpenter, marking the first collaboration between the two artists.
In “The Life of a Showgirl”, we see Swift play a narrator who meets her idol, “Kitty”, where we delve into her backstory. Kitty reveals to Swift that fame is not all it appears, and warns the narrator to be mindful. The narrator then covers her own issues with fame, with Swift and Carpenter closing the song together with a sample of a crowd noise from Swift’s “Eras” tour in Vancouver, Canada.
The track received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the song for symbollically closing the album and also praising Swift and Carpenter’s voices as a duo. Others, however, criticised its lyrics and “surprisingly limp”.
“The Life of a Showgirl” is certified Gold in Australia and Silver in the United Kingdom.
