Sour Candy (with BLACKPINK)

Lady Gaga

Album Chromatica

“Sour Candy” is the tenth track from American musician and singer Lady Gaga and her sixth studio album “Chromatica” and features vocals from South Korean girl group BLACKPINK. The track was released a day before the album’s release, on the 28th May 2020.

“Sour Candy” was written by Lady Gaga, producers BloodPop and Burns, singer Madsion Love, Rami Yacoub and Hong Jun Park (known as Teddy Park), an American-Korean producer. Produced by BloodPop and Burns, “Sour Candy” is a 1990’s influenced deep house and bubblegum-pop track sung in English and Korean, with Gaga and members of BLACKPINK taking turns throughout the track to illustrate how they function in relationships, using sour candy and its wrapper as a metaphor. In an interview with Japanese entertainment site “TV Groove”, Gaga spoke about how the collaboration between the two aritsts came to be: “when I called them and asked if they wanted to write a song with me, they were so happy and motivated. It was a really exciting collaboration… I wanted to celebrate them because they love powerful women like us, and they also wanted to celebrate me, and we had a great time together with this song. I was excited to hear them interpret the song in Korean, and told them that the part was so creative and fun. I was impressed when I heard their singing voice.”

There is currently no music video for “Sour Candy”, however the official audio upload on Lady Gaga’s YouTube channel has 38.6 million views since its upload on the 28th May 2020, and almost 3 million likes.
