SOS

ABBA

Album ABBA

“SOS” is the fourth track from Swedish pop group ABBA and their 1975 self-titled album. The song was written by ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with help from frequent collaborator Stig Anderson. Ulvaeus and Andersson also produced “SOS”.

“SOS” is a unique pop song for its time, as it opens with a classical keyboard and an emotional solo. The track is about a cry to a lover who seems to ignore them and no longer them, hence the term “SOS”, often used as a signal and cry for help.

The music video was released in the same year as the song, and was directed by Lasse Hallström, featuring ABBA singing the track in a room with mirrors, where the bandmates sometimes look distorted. Since its upload to YouTube in October 2009, the music video for “SOS” has over 60 million views.
