“Illusion” is the third single from English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa’s third album “Radical Optimism”, which was released in May 2024 through Warner Records UK.
The dance track follows similar themes to Lipa’s last two singles “Houdini” and “Training Season”, and sees Lipa refusing to fall for a façade from a potential lover, with the previous two tracks also discussing prioritising yourself while dating and not falling for false promises.
Dua Lipa spoke to NME about “Illusion” and the feeling she had creating the summer dance track:
“[“Illusion”] was a song where I felt like lyrically, I got this radical optimism. I felt very strong in the moment when I was writing that song, because it was really seeing past someone’s bullshit, I guess, for lack of a better word. And understanding it for what it is and just entertaining it for the hell of it, even though you see what’s happening. When Kevin and Danny came together and it was the live drums and the synths and the big music breakdown, in my head the big dance moment, when all those came together it was just a feeling.”
The music video was directed by Tanu Muino and filmed in Barcelona.
