“Future Nostalgia” is the second single from British pop artist Dua Lipa, and her second studio album of the same name, which is due to be released early 2020.
“Future Nostalgia” is a pop song with heavy influences of disco, funk and pop. The song is a nod to female empowerment, and being a “female alpha”, as well as deconstructing female stereotypes and inequality within the entertainment business; a topic Lipa is known to be passionate about. Written by Lipa, Clarence Coffee Jr, and producer Jeff Bhasker, Lipa told readers of the Rolling Stone magazine about the background of the song: “Future Nostalgia’ is my album title track and is a little something to tie [sic] [the fans] over till the New Year. I wrote this one with Jeff Bhasker and Coffee one afternoon in L.A. It’s all playful and fun and not taking ourselves too seriously but we loved it so much we wanted to share it.”
There is currently no music video for “Future Nostalgia”, but there is a lyric video on Dua Lipa’s YouTube channel that was uploaded on the 16th December 2019. It features Lipa playing golf and lounging around a large glass house, wearing men’s shirts and blazers and drinking whisky. Towards the end of video, Lipa dances in a lit-up room with a mirror, while the lyrics are shown around her. The video currently has over 1.6 million views.
