“Boat” is the second single from Ed Sheeran’s fifth studio album “-” (“Subtract”), which was released in May 2023 through Asylum and Atlantic Records.
The emotional track sees Sheeran use metaphors to describe depression – with waves being the latter and the boat being himself: “But the waves won’t break my boat”.
Upon the song’s release, Sheeran took to Instagram to explain “Boat”:
“I wrote this by the English seaside, very extreme elements in the winter. It’s basically about feeling very low and not knowing how to make it feel better, but being determined it wasn’t gonna be the end. The waves wont break my boat…”
The music video was released on the 21st April via Sheeran’s official YouTube channel. The video was directed by Mia Barnes, and had a total of 4.8 million views in 2 weeks.
