“betty” is the fourteenth track form Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album “folklore”, which was released on the 24th July 2020. “betty” was written by Swift and William Bowery, with production done by Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff and Swift.

“betty” is folk rock and country song that details a love story between a highschooler James and Betty, a girl they are is in love with. James has cheated on Betty with a “summer fling”, and tries to convince Betty that they are the person for her. The individual who James cheated on is deemed to be the narrator of “august”, another track on the “folklore” album. Since the release of the track, many of Swift’s fans thought that the song could be about a love story between two women, as the name “James” has also been commonly used as a name for girls (for example, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s daughter James). Taylor Swift has neither confirmed or denied this fan theory.

There is no music video for the song as of yet, however the official Lyric video uploaded to Swift’s YouTube channel on the 24th July 2020 has 6.9 million views with over 214 thousand likes.
