“Abracadabra” is the third single from American singer-songwriter-performer Lady Gaga‘s eighth studio album “Mayhem”. The dance-pop song was released on the 3rd February 2025 through Interscope Records.
The song has heavy electronic and house influences, and sends listeners back to Lady Gaga’s old and signature sound of the early-to-mid 2000s. The lyrics see Lady Gaga urging listeners to always see the magic in life and always carry on dancing.
Gaga spoke to Elle Magazine about the song’s meaning and symbolism:
“[…]the song is about facing the challenge of life and the challenge of the night and finding the magic in it all. When you have to face the world, the people around you, your life, your unique circumstances, your unique fabric in the world.
[…] The lady in red is all of you that puts you to the test. Your internal monologue. ‘Can you do it? Can you do it? Will you do it? Are you good enough? Can you handle it?’ […] I wanted to explore the question, ‘What does it feel like to thrive and not just be surviving all the time?’
[…] with this song, I wanted to crack open what it means to persevere. And explore the metaphor of perseverance on the dance floor, because the dance floor is – for me, anyway – it has always been the place where I try to improve myself as a human being.”
On the day of the release of “Abracadabra”, 4.92 million streams were recorded on Spotify, marking Gaga’s biggest debut on the streaming platform with a solo tune.
