“Don’t Start Now” is English singer/songwriter Dua Lipa’s latest track from her upcoming album “Future Nostalgia”, which is due to be released in 2020.
“Don’t Start Now” carries on with Lipa’s signature theme of heartbreaks and love, and being free of a toxic relationship and not missing it. Lipa first teased the track on her Instagram on the 23rd October 2019, with the caption: “Miss me?”. The track has been branded by critics as a dance/disco track, with Ed Millet of TaP Management (Lipa’s management team) described the track to Variety magazine as “more upbeat and dance-y”. In a public statement issued by Lipa herself, she spoke about her choice to release “Don’t Start Now” as the first single from her highly anticipated second studio album: “I chose to put this song out first so I could close one chapter of my life and start another. Into a new era with a new sound! It’s about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made “New Rules” with.”
The music video for “Don’t Start Now” was released on YouTube on the 1st November 2019, and was directed by Nabil (Nabil Elderkin). The video takes place in a basement club and a masked mall, with a first person perspective camera view. The audience are shown being kicked out by Dua Lipa, then taken back to “5 hours before”, however it is unclear why. As of mid-November 2019, the music video has almost 27 million views and over 980 thousand likes.
