“Starlight” is the latest single from British rapper Dave, and is his first song to be released since his highly successful and critically acclaimed album “We’re All In This Together”, released in 2021.
Written and produced by Dave, “Starlight” samples Canada-based Indonesian duo The Macarons Project 2017 cover of iconic Frank Sinatra’s 1964 classic “Fly Me To The Moon”. Lyrically, the song sees Dave talk about his lavish lifestyle thanks to his hard work, his previous life in South London, his desires to settle down with a loving partner, and references to American rapper Meek Mill. At the beginning of the song, the lyrics “in other words, I love you” are played backwards.
The music video was released on the 3rd March 2022 and was directed by Nathan Tettey along with Dave. The video shows a lavish apartment with Dave singing the track, alongside Corteiz clothing founder Clint wearing the brand’s latest designs. By the 15th March 2022, the video had a total of 4.7 million views, 187 thousand likes and was #3 on YouTube’s trending page for music.
