“Black” is the third track from British rapper and songwriter Dave (David Omoregie) debut album “Psychodrama”, which was released last year on the 8th March 2019 through the label “Neighbourhood”. “Black” was written by Dave and Fraser T. Smith, who is a frequent collaborator of Dave’s. Smith also produced the song.
“Black” is an R&B track where Dave discusses the difficulties of being a black person, from the representation of black people in the media, as well as the disportionate amount of black individuals for minor crimes. This is one of Dave’s most powerful tracks; remind black people that they are beautiful and powerful. The track also criticises white people stealing from black culture and “having their fun with it”, which black people face the consequences and hardships.
The video for “Black” was released on YouTube on the 21st February 2019 and was directed by Nathan James Tettey, Edem Wornoo and Dave. The video features Dave talking to his black friends about the difficulties they have all experienced, dressed in a suit and walking around what appears to be a market in Africa. As of late June 2020, the video has 5.6 million views with 186 thousand likes.
