Señorita

Señorita” is the latest track from young pop stars Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello, making it four years since their last track they worked on together: “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, which was released in 2015. The pair have hinted about another collaboration since December 2018.

In their joint interview for V Magazine, Shawn explained that it took “10 months to convince Camila to sing this with me”, while Camila stated that the song took “like 8 months in the making.” Camila also told Clash Music about the process of creating “Señorita”: “He (Shawn) had sent me the idea for it nine months ago, and we just kinda kept going back and forth between like, ‘We’re doing it!’ and then one of us being like, ‘Okay, I don’t wanna do it’, and then the other one being like, ‘No, I wanna do it now’, and the other person was like, ‘Oh, I don’t wanna do it anymore… It took a bit for it to come to fruition where we were both like, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’”
The track is a romantic and pop-Latin track describing a very intense and passionate relationship. Many of the singer’s fans claim to believe that the pair are secretly dating, but both artists have strongly denied that claim since their first track together in 2015.

The music video was directed by Dave Meyers, who has directed many music videos for many artists, such as Outkast, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson, and most recently Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Both Mendes and Cabello are protagonists of the music video, with Mendes arriving in a new town on his motorcycle, and meets Cabello who is working in a diner. The pair meet again at a club/bar, where Mendes asks her to dance, which Cabello agrees with but eventually runs away. Their relationship progresses, where they’re staying together in a hotel, kissing one another and alluding to a physical relationship. The pair also dance very promiscuously in a red-lit room. The video ends with Mendes having left the town on his motorbike, and Cabello talking to a work mate on a bench. Since its upload on the 20th June, the music video has over 153 million views and almost 7 million likes, as of the beginning of July.
