“Pink Pony Club” is the 2020 single from American singer-songwriter Chappel Roan, and the eleventh track on Roan’s debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, released in 2023.

The pop song was originally released in April 2020 through Roan’s previous label Atlantic Records, but Roan was then dropped by Atlantic only four months later. This led to her taking a year long break from the music industry, where she moved from LA back to her home town of Willard, Missouri to write music and work to be able to fund her music releases. In 2022, she began releaseing music independently until she was signed to Island Records and Amusement Records in early 2023.

Lyrically, the song sees Chappell dream about moving to LA to be a dancer at the “Pink Pony Club” (which is not based on the strip club of the same name in Atlanta, Roan has confirmed). However, her mother is concerned Roan will lose her southern values and ways, despite how often Roan reassures that she’s “just having fun”.

Speaking to Pop Crave about the hit song, Roan reminisced on the song’s slow rise to mainstream charts and its sudden surge in popularity 4 years later:

“It was actually very sad, because I released it in April 2020. It was a very dark time when it came out. No one could party, and it was West Hollywood’s anthem! It’s for going out and queerness, and it was just so sad that I couldn’t perform it. The first time I had ever performed it was last May. It was on the shelf for two years because concerts won’t open, you know? It was a bummer, but I know it helped a lot of people through the pandemic.”

The music video for “Pink Pony Club” was released on 3rd April 2020 and was directed vy Griffin Stoddard.
