“After Midnight” is the third track on American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan‘s debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”. The bubblegum pop song was released on the 22nd September 2023 through Island Records.

In “After Midnight”, we see Roan singing about her love of clubbing and feeling free, with her mother warning her that nothing good happens when it’s late at night. Roan talks about sexual desire, a want to experiment with other people and feeling satisfied.

In a filmed interview with Capital Buzz in January 2024, Roan revealed her inspiration behind “After Midnight”:

“Once I moved out to LA when I was eighteen, I just realized that literally everything good happens after midnight, like, it is a blast. And a lot of what I was taught was out of fear for what’s more dangerous, which I totally get, but I was just so baffled that 3 A.M. is so fun. It’s like a little saying my dad said but he’s not really adamant about that. It was just like, “What’s a bubbly pop song we can just talk about party?”

“After Midnight” is certified Gold in the United States.
