I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)

Taylor Swift

Album Red (Taylor’s Version)

I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” is the 26th song from Taylor Swift’s re-release of her 2012 album “Red“, with 2021’s version being titled “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and distributed through Republic Records rather than Big Machine Records. Due to the former label owning the masters of all of Swift’s first six albums, Swift took it upon herself to re-create all six albums so she could therefore devalue Big Machine’s versions and reclaim her own work.

I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” is a country ballad, incorporating modern pop elements – a combination Swift is known for. The track sees Swift scold her ex for how he treated her, as well as compares both of their backgrounds, pondering on the reasons on why their relationship didn’t work out; yet, Swift knows that their ex still thinks about them. “I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” features American singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton, where he provides backing vocals and harmonies.

On the 12th November 2021, Swift spoke about the track to Boston country radio station “Country 102.5”, and revealed the song was written in Massachusetts:

‘I Bet You Think About Me’ is a song I wrote with Lori McKenna, who is one of my favorite singer-songwriters ever […] I wrote this with her at her house when I was playing Foxboro Stadium on the Speak Now Tour [in June 2011]. We wanted this song to be like a comedic, tongue in cheek, funny, not caring what anyone thinks about you sort of break up song […] there are a lot of different types of heartbreak songs on Red… […] We wanted this to be the moment where I was like, ‘I don’t care about anything.’ And we wanted to make people laugh with it, and we wanted it to be sort of a drinking song, and I think that that’s what it ended up being.”

The music video for “I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” premiered via Swift’s YouTube channel on the 15th November 2021. Directed by actress Blake Lively (this is Lively’s first time as a director) and written by Lively and Swift, the video stars Swift as she attends an ex-lovers wedding (the lover is played by actor Miles Teller), where she adds colour to a white wedding: red roses, wearing a red dress and dying water red. Swift is then shown getting married to her ex-lover, choosing to walk away. The audience is then shown Teller, who has been thinking of Swift while he is about to deliver a speech. In only 2 hours, the video had almost 2 million views with over half a million likes.
