“home with you” is the second track from British songwriter, singer and dancer FKA twigs’ (real name Tahliah Barnett) 2019 album, “MAGDALENE”.

“home with you” was written by FKA twigs and P. Flynn, with production done by twigs, Jaar and Noah Goldstein. “home with you” is an experimental art pop love song about heartbreak and people’s need for other people. In an interview with Genius after “home with you”, FKA twigs answered a few questions behind the track:

Genius: What inspired this song?

FKA twigs: The inspiration behind “Home With You” is when, for me it was about when my life was very chaotic at the time, and I felt like I was just sort of holding on by a thread. But at the same time, it was at a point in my life, and in my career where everything seemed on the outside like it was all together and going really well. So I had people that I loved and people that loved me dearly kind of depending on me a lot and needing things from me. And “Home With You” is about that battle of wanting to be there for somebody, but also struggling to be there for yourself at the same time.

G: What is your songwriting process like?

F-T: I think that my process changes each time. I personally feel like the music that I enjoy the most long-term, is something that happens within half an hour to an hour. So when we’re talking about things like “Water Me” or “Two Weeks” or “Cellophane,” “Pendulum,” the things that for me as an artist that I know when I’m 50 I’m still going to be up for singing, those are the songs that come together very organically. But some take months, honestly, sometimes it can be like you just have one tiny bit and then you’re sort of trying to patch everything together for ages. It’s just, it’s kind of different every time.

The music video was released on the same day of the track – 7th October 2019 – and was directed by FKA twigs herself. It opens with a group of people and FKA twigs dancing at an underground rave, then showing twigs and friends riding around Hackney in convertible, and then they reach a sunny house where twigs dances with a white dress and one eye covered in all scenes – either with a plaster or eye patch. As of March 2020, the video has 1.6 million views and 53 thousand likes. On Spotify, the song has 7.8 million streams worldwide.
