In an interview with Paul O’Grady, Richard said:”It’s saying love affairs don’t last forever, but you and I, we’ve stood side by side through the storms together and all through the years, you have been golden”, Cliff also said:”Never mind the gold records, the public have been golden, and so it’s a very emotional song to sing.”
An emotional time for Richard when he celebrated his 50 years in the business by dedicating ‘Golden’ to thehis loyal fans all around the world.

I recently lost my husband after 54 yrs of marriage. Heartbroken I find this a bitter sweet song for us.
