“BMF” is the fifth track from SZA‘s 2024 album “SOS Deluxe: LANA”. The album was released in December 2024 through Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records. It is a deluxe version of SZA‘s critically acclaimed 2022 album, “SOS”.
“BMF” is a bossa-nova infused pop song, that features a sample of the iconic 1962 single “The Girl from Ipanema” from Brazilian musician Antônio Carlos Jobim. “BMF” was originally titled “Boy from Detroit”, but is a reference to a drug trafficking organisation in Detroit named “Black Mafia Family”.
The track sees SZA talking about a love interest from Detroit. In December 2022 after the release of her “SOS” album, SZA spoke to Rolling Stone about “BMF” not being included in the original album:
“A song called “Boy From South Detroit”, “BMF”, that Twitter wanted really bad, [neither] Rob [Bisel] nor Punch really cared about that song. They weren’t really excited about it. Rob was like, ‘I don’t really think this is the song’, and then Punch was, like, indifferent about the song. Then I was like, ‘No, I really believe in this.’ It didn’t make the album, but it will be on the deluxe.”

“BMF” is certified Gold in Canada.
