Housewife

Tate McRae

Album Housewife (Single)

“Housewife” is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae, released on 15 October 2026 through RCA Records. It serves as the lead single from her upcoming fourth studio album and marks her first solo release since the deluxe edition of her third studio album, So Close to What (2025). The track was written by McRae, Julia Michaels, Ryan Tedder, Jasper Harris, Pablo Díaz-Reixa and Grant Boutin, with production handled by Tedder, Boutin, El Guincho and Harris.

The song explores themes of love, fame, wealth and independence, challenging traditional expectations of women and domestic life. Rather than presenting the idea of being a housewife as a conventional romantic aspiration, McRae reinterprets the term through a perspective centred on financial freedom, luxury and self-sufficiency. Its lyrics combine references to expensive cars, yachts and material wealth with a desire to remain independent, presenting a character who wants to enjoy the benefits of a lavish lifestyle without being defined by a relationship. The song continues McRae’s exploration of confidence, ambition and relationships within her pop songwriting.

Musically, “Housewife” features polished pop production, combining electronic elements with a rhythmic, dance-oriented arrangement. Its confident delivery and emphasis on wealth and independence complement the song’s playful approach to traditional gender roles. The track presents a different perspective on domesticity, using the title to challenge the assumptions associated with the term rather than accepting its conventional meaning.

The accompanying music video was directed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti and filmed in the south of France. Released alongside the single on 15 October 2026, it follows McRae through a series of luxurious Mediterranean settings, including a yacht, lavish estates and poolside locations. The video features appearances by Swedish former ice hockey player Simon Lööf, Dutch model Thijmen Oerlemans and British model Ruben Moreiram. Scenes show McRae enjoying an extravagant lifestyle, dancing, playing golf from a yacht and practising boxing, while the narrative also incorporates confrontations with romantic interests. The visual presentation reinforces the song’s focus on luxury, independence and the pursuit of personal freedom.

McRae performed “Housewife” at the 2026 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where she introduced the song to a live audience.
