“Revolving door” is the third track from Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae‘s album “So Close To What”. The album and song were both released on the 21st February 2025 through RCA Records. “So Close To What” is McRae’s third studio album.
“Revolving door” is a pop song that uses the metaphor of a revolving door to symbolise a relationship that McRae cannot seem to stop herself returning to. She goes round and round in a vicious cycle, unable to escape, ending up in pattern of toxic behaviour and relationships.
Speaking to Track By Track from Amazon Music, McRae explained the story behind the song:
” [“Revolving Door”] initially started as a love song and feeling like you’re stuck in this revolving door of a relationship and regardless of what you do in your life and how you change, I keep coming back to this person. And then I realized, ‘cause I wrote the bridge a different day, […] that it wasn’t just a relationship song, it was literally about my inability to make decisions and my inability to change […] like I was in this cycle not only in relationships but in my life, of staying the same person and never feeling stable on one thing.”
