“greedy” is the September 2023 track from Canadian singer-songwriter Tate McRae, which was released through RCA Records.

McRae first teased the pop track on TikTok in August 2023, promising listeners that new music was coming soon and that “greedy” will be the first to be released. A sped-up version of the song went viral, where clips of the song were used in self-empowerment videos and videos on female confidence.

Lyrically, the song sees McRae know her worth and explaining to a potential suitor not to get greedy with the information he wants from her, and that she will let him get to know her when or if, she wants to.

Speaking to PEOPLE.com, McRae revealed that the song came from the experience of a man coming up to her at a bar and attempting to get to know her:

“A guy had come up to me at a bar and he was like, ‘Oh, you’re so mysterious and I feel like I know nothing about you. You keep your cards so close to your chest.’ Then I was thinking, and I’m like, ‘Yeah, it takes a lot for me to really open up and get to know someone […]’ 

We started writing this really sassy song about the feeling of having utter confidence being like, ‘Yeah, it takes a lot to really get me to open up.’ And it ended up feeling like this really cool female empowerment song […]It’s a tongue-in-cheek kind of vibe. I feel like it’s my most playful song I’ve written so far…”

The music video for the song was released alongside the single and premiered on McRae official YouTube channel.
