“this is me trying” is the ninth track on Taylor Swift’s 2020 album “folklore”, which was released last month in July. “this is me trying” was written and produced by Swift and producer and writer Jack Antonoff.
“this is me trying” is a slow ghostly song on the “folklore” album and doesn’t fit into the sound from the rest of the album, with Swift’s vocals amplified to sound haunting, as well as the use of a grand orchestra amplifying the eerie feel that radiated from the track. Aaron Dessner, a producer who also collaborated on the “folklore” album, spoke about the song in Vulture magazine:
“…to me, relates to the entire album. Maybe I’m reading into it too much from my own perspective, but [I think of] the whole album as an exercise and working through these stories, whether personal or old through someone else’s perspective. It’s connecting a lot of things. But I love the feeling in it and the production that Jack did. It has this lazy swagger.”
There is no music video for the song, however the official lyric video for “this is me trying” was uploaded to Swift’s YouTube channel in July 2020. As of late August 2020, the video has 4.6 million views and 158 thousand likes.
