Wonderful

Burna Boy

Album Twice as Tall

“Wonderful” is the latest and first single by Nigerian singer and songwriter Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu Rex) and his upcoming album “Twice as Tall”, which is set to arrive later this summer.

“Wonderful” was written by Burna Boy and Alli Odunayo and produced by Telz, and is a dancehall track about how powerful music can be and how it transcends any barriers or issues, as well as the concept of “home”. In a statement to Pitchfork magazine, Burna Boy explained the track: “It’s important for me to show that music is a uniting force that transcends state lines, barriers and borders. This song is about the ‘wonders’ of seeing the impact of my music on people’s lives as they shared their joy, pain and pleasure with me while I toured the world,” Burna Boy said in a statement. “It serves as a note that no matter how far you go, or how hard you work; you must be ready to come home, the pandemic forced us all to take refuge in our homes. Above all, Africa is home, it is the motherland to all people. For us to truly matter, Africa has to matter.” Burna Boy sings parts of the song in his native language Yoruba, talking about coming home to his mother, as well as dancing to a big drum.

The music video was released on the 1st July 2020 on Burna Boy’s YouTube channel. Directed by Director K, the video acts as a homage to Africa and showcasing Burna Boy’s idea of “home”. As of late July 2020, the video has 3.1 million views and 102 thousand likes.
