“To Die For” is the latest single from British pop artist Sam Smith, and their upcoming third studio album of the same name, which is due to be released on the 1st May 2020. “To Die For” was written by Smith, James Napier, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, with production done by Stargate and Jimmy Napes.
In an interview with radio host Zane Lowe for radio show Apple Music, Smith spoke about the of the song for them as well the process behind the track. Smith stated that the song was inspired by the Venice Beach boulevard in Los Angeles in California. ““ … everyone was happy because everyone’s happy on that road. Just partners everywhere, kissing, and families … it’s about feeling alone and feeling like you’re on the outside watching everyone else … ”.
The music video was released along side the track and was directed by Grant Singer. It follows a head of a mannequin (who looks akin to Sam Smith) who is alive, and watches passerby’s and people get on with their life. The video ends with the mannequin head being stolen. In less than 24 hours, the video has received over 2.5 million views and 158 thousand likes.

Chart Rankings: Since “To Die For” was only released on Friday, its chart entries are not yet certain. However, in less than 24 hours of its release it hit the peak position of #13 on the British iTunes Charts.
