“THATS WHAT I WANT” is the fourth song from American rapper and songwriter Lil Nas X and his debut album “MONTERO”, which was released through Columbia Records on the 17th September 2021.
“THATS WHAT I WANT” is a pop-rock song that sees Lil Nas X be vulnerable (a common theme across his album and songs) about loneliness, finding love as a queer black man and his longing for a healthy and happy relationship.
The music video for “THATS WHAT I WANT” was directed by Stillz, and was premiered via Lil Nas X’s YouTube channel on the 17th September 2021. The video sees Lil Nas X falling in love with as American football player, and pays homage to the 2005 queer film “Brokeback Mountain“. Actor Billy Porter plays a priest who helps Lil Nas X find his strength again. In less than one week, the video had received over 28.7 million views and over 1.3 million likes.
