Rush

“Rush” is the 2023 single from Australian singer, actor and songwriter Troye Sivan. It is the lead single from his 2023 album “Something To Give Each Other”. “Rush” was released on the 13th July 2023 through EMI Records.

The electronic pop song sees Sivan unapologetically embrace queerness in all its forms: mentally, emotionally and physically. Sivan discusses freedom, the feeling of being carefree and ability to be one’s most authentic and fun self. In a press release, Sivan broke down the track’s meaning:

“‘Rush’ is the feeling of kissing a sweaty stranger on a dance floor, a two-hour date that turned into a weekend, a crush, a winter, a summer. Party after party, after party after after party. All of my experiences from a chapter where I feel confident, free and liberated. Independent, yet somehow the most connected to the music and community around me.”

None of Sivan’s past releases have been as unapologetic about identity and sexual desire as “Rush” has, and Sivan explained to Billboard that this single felt different:

“I think I’m just used to putting stuff out to my very safe, immediate audience that I know have my back because they’ve been there for so long and everything. This time feels very different for some reason…”

The music video was released the 13th July 2023, and was directed Gordon von Steiner and filmed in Berlin. In one week, the video had 4.2 million views.

The song was originally teased via Sivan’s TikTok, which lead to the small snippet of the song going viral along with sample of choreography shown by Sivan in his original video.
