“Got Me Started” is the seventh track from Australian singer Troye Sivan’s third album “Something To Give Each Other”, which was released on the 13th October 2023 through EMI Australia and Capitol Records.
“Got Me Started” was the second single released from Sivan’s third album, and was initially met with mixed reactions as the song heavily samples Bag Raiders 2010 hit “Shooting Stars”. The song was previously used in memes back in 2017, so the use of it in a pop track seemed to throw listeners.
Lyrically, the song sees Sivan celebrate in a resurgence in sexual confidence after a period of sadness, as well as “remembering who you are and that people are hot”, in Sivan’s own words.
Speaking to Dork, Sivan revealed his decision to use “Shooting Stars” as a sample in “Got Me Started”:
“When we were writing this song, I was emphatic about using “Shooting Stars” — I just kept humming it in the studio. I’m over the moon about the opportunity to sample that track because this song is iconic to me. Ian Kirkpatrick’s production technique of recording the vocal at a slower speed and then speeding it up is what you hear in the chorus. I instantly loved the way it sounded.”
The music video for “Got Me Started” was released on the 20th September 2023 and was directed by Gordon von Steiner and shot in Bangkok, Thailand. As of the 20th October 2023, the video had almost 5 million views.
