“positions” is speculated to be about Grande’s current partner Dalton Gomez, where Grande promises her lover to be everything that he will need and will be all roles he needs in his life out of a partner. Many critics praised the song for its catchiness and simple but upbeat tune.

The music video for “positions” was released on the same day as the song on the 23rd October 2020. The video was directed by Dave Meyers, and shows Grande as President of the United States. We see Grande cooking, walking dogs, and attending meets as the President, surrounded by some friends and family who cameo in the video, such as Grande’s mother Joan and friend Victoria Monét.
